Using CBD To Relieve Fibromyalgia Symptoms

Fibromyalgia refers to a chronic pain syndrome that is characterized by a widespread fatigue, musculoskeletal pain, and tenderness in certain areas. A fibromyalgia patient has many fibers all over the body that sense pain and reports it to their brain. According to scientists, the pain-regulating system of the body, the endocannabinoid system, has proven its ability to respond to different cannabinoid substances including CBD. Endocannabinoid system’s receptors are located in the central nervous system, bone tissues, and the immune cells. CBD communicates with the receptors of the endocannabinoid system thereby providing relief to fibromyalgia patients.

Studies On CBD Benefits For Fibromyalgia

Study #1 (online survey)

There was an online study conducted by the National Pain Foundation and the National Pain report of 1,300 patients suffering from Fibromyalgia.  The results were fantastic:

“Medical marijuana is far more effective at treating symptoms of fibromyalgia than any of the three prescription drugs approved by the Food and Drug Administration (Cymbalta, Lyrica and Savella) to treat the disorder.

“Sixty-two percent who have tried cannabis said it was very effective at treating their fibromyalgia symptoms. Another 33% said it helped a little and only 5% said it did not help at all.” – http://nationalpainreport.com/marijuana-rated-most-effective-for-treating-fibromyalgia-8823638.html

Study #2 (medical)

“After 2 hours of cannabis use, VAS scores showed a statistically significant (p<0.001) reduction of pain and stiffness, enhancement of relaxation, and an increase in somnolence and feeling of well being." - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21533029

Study #3 (medical)

Migraine, fibromyalgia, IBS and related conditions display common clinical, biochemical and pathophysiological patterns that suggest an underlying clinical endocannabinoid deficiency that may be suitably treated with cannabinoid medicines. –https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15159679

Things To Consider Before Buying & Taking CBD

When considering any of the possible CBD products online, it’s important to take into consideration a couple factors from the people you are buying from. These include the THC percentage offered in the product and the actual method of how the CBD is extracted from the hemp plant.

Generally, you want to make sure that you are able to view the lab reports of the CBD products and supplements in order to make sure you are buying a product that is legal.  It must be under the legal limit of 0.3% THC. This percentage will NEVER get you high as CBD counter-effects the THC side effects.

As for the extraction methods, there are only three ways to extract Cannabidiol from a hemp plant and we only recommend two of the three. They are as followed:

  1. Using Butane & Propane – Not Recommended
  2. CBD that is extracted by super critical CO2 – Somewhat Recommended
  3. CBD that is slowly extracted through cradling the hemp plant in organic ethanol (food based) – HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Closing Thoughts & Recommendations

Throughout all of our research, it is engrained in our minds that CBD is still yet to be considered a “treatment” or “cure” for any health condition, disease, or ailment. Cannabidiol, nonetheless, is showing very positive results and researchers have acknowledged CBD for its strong potential as an anti-inflammatory and a pain-reducing cannabinoid.  Since pain and inflammation are common symptoms of Fibromyalgia, one can only hope that CBD is a great option.*  However, more studies are needed to make this a medical fact.

We are thrilled to be able to research what has been done so far in order to give you the information in a clear, understanding manner.  After this article, you will now be able to make an educated decision on whether or not you want to add CBD as a dietary supplement for your fibromyalgia.  And for even more guidance, click here to view the best CBD products for fibromyalgia (in our opinion).
