This article will teach you how to find what the CBD industry calls, the “CBD sweet spot.” This can be easily defined as a unique amount of CBD to be consumed that is specific to you and you alone.
You will also be able to accurately calculate your own CBD dose by using our interactive CBD Dosage Calculator.
Furthermore, it will teach you how to find accurate CBD serving sizes based on all three CBD intake methods (ingestible, smokable, and topical).
DOSING CANNABIDIOL 101
Pure CBD hemp oil can be consumed pretty much just like any other nutritional/vitamin supplement, but with more options!
You can ingest it, apply it, and smoke it.
With the mounting reports of positive wellness effects after consuming CBD, there have been incredible advances in both CBD product innovation and CBD research studies.
This provides the opportunity for CBD consumers to be able to choose a CBD product based on their specific needs; this includes any or all of the following:
- Preferred Product For CBD Consumption
(e.g. CBD oils, gummies, topicals, smokables, etc.)
- Most Effective CBD Product Based On Their Specific Needs In Regards To Health Issues or Job Requirements
(e.g. Pure CBD, Broad Spectrum CBD, Full Spectrum CBD, or Water-Soluble CBD products)
- A CBD Product That Offers Premeasured Amounts of CBD Per Serving
(e.g. CBD Capsules or CBD Gummies)
Basically, CBD consumers can now choose a product that best fits their lifestyle, needs, and tastebuds.
Once this is fully understood, the only other question to answer is,
“How much CBD should you be taking per dose?”
HOW MUCH CBD SHOULD YOU TAKE?
This is a tricky question due to the vast amount of misconstrued information found online. To combat this dilemma, we’ve curated both general and credible recommendations to answer this efficiently.
“Start low and go slow and titrate up every 5 days. Typically I start my patients out based on the research out there which ranges from less than a milligram per kilogram of body weight up to 50 milligrams per kilogram of body weight per day. So, we go on the low end. Start low and go slow, that’s step #1.”
Based on his recommendation and guidance, we went to work to find as many medical research studies that offered a suggested CBD dose.
We found several.
CBD DOSING RECOMMENDATION BASED ON MEDICAL RESEARCH STUDIES FROM AROUND THE WORLD
Whether it be an animal or a human as the focal point of these studies, the majority of the findings were CBD dosages that were based on body weight.
Further, these recommendations weren’t random but were based upon the dosage that worked the best for the health condition being studied.
We wrote down each recommended CBD dose and averaged them out. Here is the final result:
0.325mg of CBD per pound of body weight.
DOSING BASED ON THE SUGGESTED USE FOUND ON CBD PRODUCT LABELS
CBD oil dosages, as well as consumption intervals, should be based on the serving size recommendation found on the CBD product labels.
In response to the above, we say “YES” and “MAYBE”.
We say, “YES”, in regards to following the instructions on the CBD product label, we would never recommend doing otherwise as we have no idea what’s inside someone else’s product and we would hope to assume that they know their product enough to give proper guidance.
However, the CBD industry is being built on an unbeaten path where there are no road signs or specific directions; this is where our “Maybe” comes into play.
There have been countless instances where big-name-brand CBD companies have been scrutinized (publicly) for mislabeling, misleading, or blatantly lying about their products.
Therefore, our recommendation to you comes in two parts:
- Base your CBD dose on scientific research
- Use this research to work with a medical professional to formulate a treatment plan
The good news is you’re already halfway there!
We have the research and we implore you to present this article with your primary care physician to streamline the investigation on finding your CBD dosage sweet spot!
WHAT MAYO CLINIC RECOMMENDS
According to Mayo Clinic, CBD dosage should depend on traditional use, expert opinion, scientific research, and publications (source).
This is the type of guidance that you’ll find online; vague and unclear.
However, we do appreciate that they mentioned seeking “an expert opinion” and base your dose off of “scientific research”.
I guess that’s where we come in.
DOSE DISCREPANCIES AMONGST THE LARGEST CBD BRANDS
In order to offer you the best information possible, we had to do some digging.
Below you will find the Recommend Serving Size from 9 of the largest CBD companies (in no particular order) in the United States.
Then, we compare their suggestions with ours and we will let you be the judge.
Here are their recommendations:
- BLUE BIRD BOTANICALS – 4.2mg+ Per Serving
- JUST CBD – Varied Serving Size Per Bottle
- NULEAF NATURALS – 50mg Per Serving
- PURE KANA – Varied Serving Size Per Bottle
- MEDTERRA – Varied Serving Size Per Bottle
- +PLUS CBD – No guidance, the consumer must find their own “sweet spot”.
This CBD brand suggests that the recommended serving size is 12mg Per Serving. Our personal conducted research suggests this to be far to low.
Found on the product label, this company doesn't offer any guidance. Instead, they insist that the consumer must choose the “desired amount” of CBD.
This company recommends varied CBD serving size per bottle. Varied recommendations leads to consumer confusion.
Gathering up all this research made our hearts hurt for CBD buyers around the world.
As you already know, we (CANNABIDIOL LIFE) do not offer a general dose of CBD that is supposed to work for everyone.
We offer an individualized serving size approach and formula that is based on scientific research and the consumers’ weight.
UNREGULATED DOSING RECOMMENDATIONS BREEDS MASS CONFUSION FOR CBD BUYERS
We were horrified by how different the recommended CBD serving sizes were from one CBD oil to the next. Further, we found one company that offered “no guidance”… which still blows my mind a bit.
So, with a raise of hands, who’s still confused?!
If you raised your hand, we happily invite you to put it down because immediately below, you will find our interactive and LIVE CBD dosage calculator!
TOOLS TO HELP YOU CALCULATE YOUR OWN CBD DOSE
In this section, we offer several tools to ensure you leave here confidently knowing exactly what your recommended Cannabidiol serving size is.
As we covered above from accumulated research, the average medical professional recommendation is based on what worked the best for their scientific study.
This came out to be 0.325mg of CBD multiplied by your body weight using pounds (lbs.) as the weighing metric.
Thus, a 150lb person should start off with a CBD dose of 48.75mg.
AVOID DOSING ERRORS & MISCALCULATIONS
We’ve created the following two CBD Dosage Charts:
- Choosing unit based CBD products like CBD Gummies & CBD Capsules. These have a set amount of CBD per unit. The only down fall is that it’s kind of hard to hit your exact recommended CBD dose. Either way, their an excellent alternative to tinctures because the dose is automatic.
- If the company you are buying from doesn’t offer you dose information on their website or on their product label, DO NOT BUY and REPORT them.
Finding the correct amount of CBD for you may take a bit of trial and error, especially if you try to do it on your own. Dosage recommendation should be given to you by your Doctor as that is what they are trained to do.
Doctor’s base Cannabidiol dosages on the severity of the associated health problems and issues that they are looking to alleviate. That means, it strictly depends on your condition severity and weight.
Lastly, don’t forget the formula!
Your Body Weight (lbs) x 0.325mg (milligrams of CBD) =
Your Unique CBD Serving
