Not to be confused with CBD, CBC, or CBN, CBG (Cannabigerol) is known as and sometimes considered the “stem cell cannabinoid”. This highly sought after phytocannabinoid has been growing exceedingly popular due to its hierarchy in the cannabinoid chain of command.
Furthermore, the CBG supply is much less available in comparison to CBD.
This must be understood to justify the significance of CBG, a very special cannabinoid.
This begs the following question…
How Much CBG is in each Cannabis Plant?
According to a study completed by Research Gate, there is roughly 1.4% – 1.6% of CBG. We believe this to be accurate, but only for random Cannabis plants that have high THC content. With the arrival of several new CBG cultivars in 2020, we decided to also share the best CBG strains with the highest CBG percentages per plant.
CBG LAB REPORTS:
- 1 gram or 10 grams (weight-based) Pure Cannabigerol hemp extract
- Take 50 mg on an empty stomach
- Or, mix 50 mg with your favorite CBD oil
CBG vs CBD
CBG is short for Cannabigerol. CBD is short for Cannabidiol. CBG is often considered the “mother cannabinoid” or the “stem cell cannabinoid” of the 113 identified chemical compounds found naturally within cannabis plants. Unfortunately, this specific consideration is incorrect. CBGA, the acidic precursor of CBG, is the true stemcell cannabinoid and mother of all minor cannabinoids. Without CBGA (Cannabigerolic acid), we would not have the following:
- CBDA or CBD
- THCA OR THC
- CBCA OR CBC
We further explain this with the following image:
FUN FACT ABOUT CBG VS CBD:
In 2019, there was a scientific study that verified the multiplying effect that cannabinoids can have when administered together. The study states that the benefits shared between CBD and CBG are actually ENHANCED when administered together.
Now that we know the difference between CBG and CBD from a cannabinoid profile view, let’s fine-tune this CBG vs CBD comparison and take a look at the difference between specific CBD products and CBG products.
CBG Isolate Powder vs CBD Isolate Powder
CBG isolate powder, when refined to 98%-100% purity, should be a non-clumpy, fine white powder. This powder only contains CBG, there are no other cannabinoids present. A pure Cannabigerol isolate is only sold in powder form.
CBD isolate powder, when refined to 98%-100% purity, should ALSO be a non-clumpy, fine white powder. This powder only contains CBD, there are no other cannabinoids present. A pure Cannabidiol isolate is also only sold in powder form.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
In order for any phytocannabinoid-specific isolate powder to be considered a premium crystalline powder, it has to be at least 99% pure. Read the products 3rd party lab test results to verify the purity.
If there is a yellow tint or yellow hue to your CBG isolate powder, it is guaranteed to be under 98% pure.
CBG Oil vs CBD Oil
CBG oil is raw Cannabigerol infused with a carrier oil. CBG oil can be made from either a full-spectrum or broad Spectrum CBG distillate. It can also be made by homogenizing pure CBG isolate powder with a carrier oil. This oil will be CBG-based, but if the product label doesn’t have the word “pure” on it, then chances are, there will be terpenes, other cannabinoids, flavonoids, and fatty acids present (which is a good thing). Having this array of chemical compounds present increases your chances to experience the entourage effect.
CBD oil is raw Cannabidiol-infused with a carrier oil. Just like a CBG oil, CBD oil can be made from either a full-spectrum or broad Spectrum CBD distillate. It can also be made by homogenizing pure CBD isolate powder with a specific carrier oil. This oil will be CBD-based, but if the product label doesn’t have the word “pure” on it, then chances are, there will be terpenes, other cannabinoids, flavonoids, and fatty acids present. Again, this is a good thing.
What does CBG Stand For In Medical Terms?
CBG, in medical terms, stands for “Cannabigerol” and it is the resulting cannabinoid left behind once Cannabigerolic Acid sheds its acid molecule; the “A” in CBGA.
How to Use CBG Isolate?
CBG Isolate is very easy to use. We highly recommend mixing it with a full spectrum CBD oil. By doing this, you not only increase your chances to experience the entourage effect, but you will also increase the bioavailability of your CBG isolate because the fatty acids and terpenes found in hemp plants will help your CBG molecules pass through the blood-brain barrier more easily. If mixing with CBD is not available, we highly recommend that whatever you mix it with, that it be with a type of MCT oil or any type of food that is high in omega 3 or high in other fatty acids.
How Much CBG is actually in CBG powder?
This directly depends on two things, the weight of the product and the purity percentage of the CBG content within the product.
Here’s what you have to do:
- Verify the product weight by reading the NET WT. listed and located at the bottom of the CBG product label.
- Verify the CBG purity percentage by reading its 3rd Party CBG Lab Report, or the C.O.A. (certificates of analysis).
- Multiply the NET WEIGHT by the CBG purity percentage. This will give you the Total CBG content
Here are a few real-life examples you might find online:
- 1 gram of CBG (98.3% Pure) = 0.98 grams of CBG (983 mg)
- 10 grams of CBG (99.2% Pure) = 9.92 grams of CBG (9,920 mg)
- 100 grams of CBG (98.99% Pure) = 98.99 grams of CBG (989,900 mg)
How much is a kilo of CBG?
1 kilo of CBG is roughly 1,000,000 milligrams of CBG. The current retail price of a kilo of CBG isolate can be found anywhere from $3,600 – $9,000. The only variable that can affect the actual cost of a kilogram of CBG would be the purity. The higher the purity, the higher the cost.
Is CBG Legal?
Yes, very much so. CBG is not on the Schedule-1 Drug List and there are no current restrictions on buying or selling CBG products other than the fact that CBG must be extracted from industrial hemp plants (Cannabis-Sativa plants containing 0.3% THC or less).
What Does CBG Isolate Do?
CBG, just like CBD, works within our bodies Endocannabinoid System, also known as our ECS. The ECS is recognized for keeping our Immune System and our Central Nervous System in homeostasis; working exactly and as properly as it should. Click to read more.
