CBD has received a lot of publicity over the recent past. That’s because of its role in pain management and seizures control. Cannabidiol is among the most prevalent cannabinoids from medical marijuana. But, unlike THC cannabidiol is non-psychoactive. That means it does not cause a high feeling in users. However, studies have shown that CBD can have a significant role in pain management.

Pain can arise from initial injuries. This may include back sprain that can be due to a prolonged illness that causes some weakness. Other causes of pain may include fatigue, decreased appetite, and sleep disturbances. Though chronic pain causes are not known yet, brain chemicals that are responsible for stopping pain after recovering from an injury or illness may not be working right.

How CBD Works as a Pain Reliever

The endocannabinoid system or ECS is the massager system in the body. This system regulates many functions and it is implicit in homeostasis of pain. Endocannabinoids and cannabinoid receptors are present in the pain circuits from the endings of the peripheral sensory nerve to the brain. Agonist cannabinoids bind to these receptors and eventually stimulate the secretion of neurotransmitters that send signal to the body thereby causing pain. Antagonist cannabinoids like CBD do not bind to these receptors. Instead, they block the neurotransmitters’ release. In fact, CBD is said to inhibit pro-inflammatory molecules as well as modulate the nociceptive thresholds. Thus, CBD has therapeutic properties against neuropathic and inflammatory pains.

CBD for Chronic Pain

CBD is used as a therapeutic aid for chronic pain when other painkillers and sleep aids fail to yield positive results. It provides pain relief and health benefits to individuals that are experiencing chronic pain.

  • Chronic Inflammation

Chronic inflammation can damage tissues and cause pain. CBD works as an anti-inflammatory. It provides a short-term cure and in some cases a long term solution. What’s more, it does not affect the kidney, stomach, and the liver of the user.

  • Muscles Relaxation

Some pains are caused by stiffness of the muscles. CBD has anti-inflammatory and pain relieving effects that enhance muscle relaxation. When used to enhance muscle relaxation, CBD does not cause issues while exercising. It also doesn’t affect the yoga performance of the user.

  • Sleep Disturbances

Pain threatens the bodies nerves every time. This imbalance has a serious impact on sleep since the body feels like it’s exposed to danger all throughout the day and night. CBD is a neuroprotective cannabinoid and it enables the user to fall asleep quicker and stay asleep longer.  A lack of sleep also leads to anxiety problems, learn more about how CBD helps relieve anxiety.

  • Depression

Chronic pain can lead to depression. When CBD is used to relief pain, it helps in improving the symptoms of depression and chronic pain.

Generally, CBD has been proven to play a significant role in pain therapeutic aid and management. Nevertheless, further studies are necessary to determine its role in influencing the ECS relieving pain.
