CBD Pills and Capsules Recipe

Dec 22, 2019 | CBD Recipes

This guide will instruct you on how to make CBD oil infused capsules at home, by using a safe, inexpensive, and relatively simple at-home method. The required materials are relatively inexpensive, and you should be able to find them online or at a local store. The process takes a few hours and can be done in several different ways. Methods can vary depending on what ingredients and equipment you use. This recipe will produce around 45-50 capsules.

This recipe calls for an infusion of coconut oil and soy lecithin. When combined, these two work as an excellent agent to use for metabolizing the cannabinoids as they pass through your digestive system.

Dosing will vary based on factors like the potency of your materials and the ratio of the ingredients you use. There is no exact standard ratio, but the ratio(s) serves as an adequate guideline. You can always experiment later to find your perfect personalized recipe.

Equipment, Ingredients & Materials

  • Baking tray
  • Double Boiler Setup
  • Parchment paper
  • Cheese cloth
  • Rubber band
  • Spatula
  • 7-14 grams of ground cannabis
  • 1/4 – 1/2 cup of extra virgin organic coconut oil
  • 1/2 tsp soy lecithin
  • Slow cooker
  • 45 to 50 empty gelatin capsules (size 00)
  • Capsule Filling machine
  • 10mm Syringe  with oral irrigators and tapered deep reach tips
  • Cooking pot with lid

Preheat oven to 220 degrees Fahrenheit and prepare materials by grinding them finely with a grinder. Spread the grounds across a sheet of parchment paper that has been placed over a baking tray. Ovens will vary in temperature, so it’s important to make sure your oven does not get hotter than 250 degrees Fahrenheit or you risk cooking off the cannabinoids. Bake the material for 30-50 minutes to achieve proper decarboxylation,. Once finished, pull the tray from the oven and place in a safe area. Keep the temperature at 220 degrees if you plan on using your oven for the following steps.

  1. DOUBLE BOILER/OVEN – Start by filling the outer portion of the double boiler 3/4 of the way full with water. Bring it to a soft boil and add your coconut oil and soy lecithin to the inner cooking bowl. Make sure it sits about 1-2 inches above the soft boiling water. After several minutes, your coconut oil and soy lecithin will melt and you can add the cannabis.

Continue to mix the material together until everything is blended well. Empty the hot water out of your cooking pot and then add the oil mixture. Place the pot back in the oven (still at 220 degrees) for an additional 30-45 minutes. Check in a few times as it may be necessary to stir it.

  1. SLOW COOKER- Add your cannabis, coconut oil, and soy lecithin to your slow cooker and turn it to LOW. Allow the material to cook for two hours to achieve proper decarboxylation. Make sure you stir it a few times per hour.

While your oil is finishing in the oven, prepare the size 00 empty gelatin capsules and capsule filling machine. Instructions for your particular machine should come with it. These devices are designed to make capsule filling a much easier, more streamlined process, although the machine is not required.

Now secure the cheese cloth over the rim of the inner portion of your double boiler using the rubber band. When the oil is finished, remove it from the oven and strain the oil through your cheese cloth and into the bowl, catching the unnecessary particulates along the way. Be sure to let the oil cool to a temperature lower than 100 degrees Fahrenheit before filling your syringe with it. Gelatin capsules will melt over 100 degrees, so make sure that your oil is as cool as you can get it before letting it solidify.

Use the syringe’s tapered deep reach tip to feed the oil into the gelatin capsules, one at a time, until you run out of oil; repeat this process accordingly. Once finished, use the instructions on your filling machine to close each capsule. Store the finished caps in a cool, dark place, like the refrigerator until you are ready to use them.
