CBD For Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
OCD or Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is a condition that is characterized by repeated, unwanted behaviors or thoughts that debilitate the normal life of a person. The cause of this disorder is not known yet and 2.3% of the human population suffers from it. OCD is typically noticed at puberty and without treatment, it evolves throughout the life of the sufferer. Sufferers are usually obsessed with certain thoughts and they may show multiple or certain obsessive behaviors. Patients know that they are doing unnecessary things but since OCD is caused by anxiety, it makes them fear terrible things that may happen if they don’t do them. Many sufferers do those things because they bring them relief while others are unable to control OCD. Consequently, they accept the condition as part of their life.
CBD For OCD Relief
Several studies have been conducted to establish the efficacy of CBD in treating OCD. One research involved injecting Meta-chloro-phenyl-piperazine (mCPP) in rats. This compound is found in ecstasy drugs and it induces OCD-like and panic attacks in mammals. Upon the injection, the rats were placed in sand-filled cages with marbles. The rats started burying marbles almost immediately they were placed in the cages. This was an OCD-like effect that mCPP compound causes.
This observation was followed by the administration of liquid CBD and the rats changed their behavior almost immediately. All subject rats stopped their marble-burying behavior almost immediately and they resumed their normal functions. That means CBD ended all psychotic behaviors that were induced by mCPP compound and their normal brain functioning was restored.
How Cannabidiol Works
When used to treat OCD, the anti-compulsive effects of CBD reverse the obsessive-compulsive behavior. Scientists propose that the relief is because of the interaction of the serotonergic with the cannabinoid system. As such, the study shows that CBD can be a great treatment for OCD and a natural alternative to the currently available pharmaceuticals.
Why Consider To Take CBD For OCD?
Currently, selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors such as antidepressants are used to treat OCD. However, these treatments do not provide a long-term solution. Additionally, anti-depressants are addictive and they can harm the health of individuals that use them for a long period. Typically, OCD requires a long-term treatment for the sufferer to resume their normal life. That’s why it is reasonable to try natural solutions like CBD for OCD.
Currently, there are many CBD products that you can use to treat OCD. Browse through this website to learn about different CBD products to make an informed buying decision.
