What Is CBD Wax?

by | Sep 11, 2019 | CBD Wax Education

CBD Wax is a concentrated cannabis extract that contains high amounts of CBD. This extract comes in different forms and may be flavored.
CBD Wax is typically used for dabbing.

With the rise in popularity of cannabidiol (CBD) products, many people have already heard of CBD oil. However, people who are still new to the industry may be unfamiliar with the other forms of CBD available to them, like CBD Wax for instance.

Wax On, Wax Off

Cannabidiol Life’s CBD Wax is available in four bright terpene flavors to suit all your vape and dabbing needs.

So, what exactly is CBD wax, anyway?

Simply put, it’s a waxy CBD concentrate. No, you wouldn’t want to make a candle out of it, but in most cases the consistency is similar to that of other wax-like products that you may already be familiar with, like lip balm. CBD concentrates are created by a purification process called degasification.

In this process, cannabis extract is poured onto trays and loaded into a vacuum oven. The machine then proceeds to vacuum out residual hydrocarbons as they boil off. It is a finicky process, but the resulting extracts can have physical properties that can vary dramatically depending on the starting materials used.

Certain strains of cannabis are more stable than others, so when they go through the degasification process, the resulting extract is very hard, and glass-like. Whereas, different strains with higher terpenoid profiles, can come out more fluid-like, and pour thickly like honey. In almost all cases however, the wax variants take form as an opaque substance that is more solidified than your typical CBD oil.

Most manufacturers market their CBD concentrates as “CBD Wax or CBD Dabs”, but some don’t. Instead, you may see other names like “CBD crystals, CBD shatter, CBD resin, CBD crumble, or even CBD budder.” With so many different names, first time buyers can be left confused or overwhelmed when it comes to selecting the best CBD wax available to them, but the main thing to consider regarding all these names is that they are still CBD wax in various forms, and that the name is meant to be descriptive.

Below, we will discuss these different types of CBD wax and explain how the different names describe the various forms.

CBD Crumble:

As the name implies, this form of CBD wax tends to break apart easily. The creation process involves the same general extraction process as other CBD concentrates, with one key difference, the CBD oil that is used has more moisture and is higher in viscosity.

The end result is a softer substance with a distinct flavor that is less sticky than some other CBD concentrates.

CBD Budder:

This variation of CBD wax is created using higher temperatures and air pressure during the extraction process. This results in a concentrate that is fluffier than others, but still retains the same potency.

Many people prefer budder for its texture, which may make it easier for use in dabbing when compared to crumble or shatter. As the name implies, budder is similar in consistency to the kind of butter one would typically use in cooking.

CBD Resin:

The concentrate known as CBD resin or live resin is unique. It is created using cryogenically frozen buds, as opposed to dried or cured buds. Freezing the buds ensures a greater preservation of cannabinoids and terpenes, however this process is expensive.

While it does give the final product a more pronounced flavor, because of the cost involved users often reserve it for special occasions.

 CBD Wax Benefits:

The benefits of CBD in general aren’t exclusive to a specific product or form. Typically the use of CBD wax over CBD oil, for instance, boils down to personal preference. However, some users have reported less anxiety with wax while in stressful situations compared to when they used CBD oil. There could be multiple reasons for this, but most likely this is because CBD wax is a concentrated form of CBD, and it is usually inhaled as opposed to consumed orally. This means the felt effects would be stronger and experienced more quickly.

Consuming CBD orally means it has to be digested, so felt effects take longer to manifest when CBD is consumed in this way. Alternatively, the felt effects of consuming CBD orally tend to last longer than those from vaping, but can also be less intense. It is also possible to use CBD wax as an edible, but is generally not recommended. Clinical studies have revealed that CBD could be effective in treating a wide range of both physical and mental conditions.

However, it’s best to do your own research on CBD regarding the symptoms you are hoping to alleviate, so that you can make an educated decision on which product will best suit your needs.Everyone’s physiology is slightly different, so some personal experimentation may be required to discover what works best for you. Whatever you decide, make sure you buy from a reputable company who can verify the ingredients and quality of their products with verified third party lab test results. Always discuss taking CBD with your doctor.
