The Interesting Origins of “Reefer Madness” (1936)

The Interesting Origins of “Reefer Madness” (1936)

Reefer Madness is an anti-marijuana propaganda film from 1936 commercialized by Dwain Esper. Reefer Madness is also the loose title for the first ever war on drugs in the United States by the Bureau of Narcotics and Henry Anslinger against cannabis sativa (c.1930s). The two worked in hand to spread hysteria and misinformation about marijuana that still holds some sway today in popular and political sectors.

Reefer Madness Movie Poster The Interesting Origins of "Reefer Madness" (1936)

In 1936, the film Reefer Madness began to circulate as an anti-marijuana propaganda piece. The message of the film is that marijuana is the most dangerous drug affecting the youth of America. The film claims weed destroys one’s humanity, turning men into monsters and women into harlots.

The film was initially funded and produced by a church group under the production of Geoge Hirilman. But the rights ended up with indie filmmaker Dwain Esper. Dwain Esper was a mastermind of exploitation films for the time, peddling 1930’s smut and schlock under the guise of public awareness.

No country is a stranger to propaganda, the US included. An example is pro and anti war films targeting the youth of America to get them more involved. Reefer Madness was used to launch a fake news marketing campaign that supported anti-marijuana legislation, including the 1937 Marijuana Tax Act drafted by Harry Anslinger. Harry Anslinger was the head of the Bureau of Narcotics and an infamous anti-cannabis prohibitionist.

Reefer Madness was Anslinger’s attempt to create a narcotics scare to skew public perception of cannabis because so little was known about it in the 1930s. Anslinger was worried about funding for his department. Between the movie and the Bureau of Narcotics, misinformation spread with no scientific evidence. Horrible claims, like minorities supply marijuana as a form of white slavery, abounded.

Almost ninety years have passed and we still haven’t been able to change some of the negative perceptions and legislation imposed by the 1930s. Claims like marijuana being “highly addictive” and of “no medicinal value” have been proven false in tons of research studies. Hopefully as the legalization efforts for marijuana continue to grow, and studies increasingly demonstrate all the powerful benefits cannabis has to offer, we will finally see positive reform on the issue.

Where Can I Buy CBD Water

Where Can I Buy CBD Water

Asking yourself “where can I buy CBD water?” We’ve got ya covered! Our product guide below offers buyer information, store locations, and even law resources.

The Answer:

If you are interested in learning where I can CBD water online, click here.

Additionally, if you would like to find where I can buy CBD water at a shop near me, try Cannabidiol Life’s CBD Oil Near Me page to find local CBD stores in your area.

This is a state by state guide where you can browse local CBD shops. Please be aware that some areas require you to have a prescription for cannabidiol in order to purchase CBD water. Additionally you should always talk to a doctor before using a CBD product, specifically if you are taking any other medications.

CBD water is harder to find than CBD oil so we recommend to shop online, or call around in your area to find a local store that carries it. CBD water is legal in 47 out of the 50 states, so long as it is derived from industrial hemp that contains less than 0.3% THC, per the federal regulations.

Always check local and state laws regarding CBD in your area. For more information, check out our post entitled Are CBD Products Legal. If you have any difficulty understanding the laws in your area, or have any concerns, you can always contact your local government official for advice.

How To Make CBD Dog Treats

How To Make CBD Dog Treats

If you have pets and are also interested in CBD, there’s a chance you’ve been researching CBD pet treats. This guide will tell you how to make your own CBD pet treats at home.

The Answer:

Ever wanted to try making your own CBD dog treats at home? Below are a few of the ways listed from easiest to hardest for your convenience.

Note: It may be best to buy pre-made CBD dog treats from a reputable company, as these companies make sure each treat contains a specific amount of CBD. You should never give CBD products to your dog that are not derived from industrial hemp, and always consult with your vet before giving your dog a new supplement.

We suggest giving your dog the CBD pet oil directly for a while to determine how they handle specific quantities of CBD. Start with the lowest recommended dose and work your way up from there. Once you find the right amount of CBD per dose for your dog, you will know exactly how many drops of oil, or how many mg of CBD to put in each treat when you make them yourself.

You do not need to worry about using more CBD however, as it is generally well tolerated by humans and dogs alike and there are no reported cases of overdose from CBD. Side effects are rare and generally mild and include common symptoms like drowsiness or nausea and/or changes in appetite.

If your dog starts having any of these symptoms after ingesting CBD, stop giving it to them and they should return to normal. Be sure to take your dog to the vet if you are concerned about their health for any reason.

HOW TO MAKE CBD Dog Treats Guide

Add CBD Oil to Ready-made Dog Treats:

This is by far the simplest way to make your own CBD dog treats at home. Simply put a few drops of CBD oil on your dog’s favorite treat. The trick is to get the oil to soak in so it might be best to use a treat that is capable of absorbing the oil. Porous dog treats are best for this, they are the type that look granular or have little holes in them.

Add CBD Oil to Frozen Dog Treats:

Another simple way to make CBD dog treats is adding CBD to frozen treats. Most frozen dog treats are prepared in batches so some math is required. You should multiply the number of treats the recipe will make by the number of CBD oil drops your pet needs and add that to the recipe. You can make a frozen dog treat mix of your choice and place individual portions in an ice cube tray, add the appropriate amount of oil to each “cube” and then mix well. Consider purchasing a dog paw shaped ice cube tray for extra style.

Homemade No-Bake CBD Dog Treats:

If you don’t want to put CBD oil on a premade treat, or a frozen treat, you can still make no-bake dog treats. You’ll want to pick a CBD dog treat recipe that calls for some kind of oil so you can replace all or part of what the recipe calls for with CBD oil. It may be best to look for recipes with coconut oil as this bonds extremely well with CBD oil and is generally safe for dogs to eat. Avoid excessive amounts of oil as this can upset your dogs stomach, additionally some dogs can be allergic to coconut oil.

No-bake dog treats are softer than baked dog treats so, while these are a great option, they can crumble easily.

Baked Homemade Dog Treats:

Baking CBD treats for your dog is basically the same process as how to make CBD edibles. If you have experience doing this already, it will probably help you.

Keep in mind that the lower the temperature when baking, the less the chances are that any of the CBD will evaporate. Generally, CBD is completely degraded at temperatures in excess of 325 degrees F so avoid baking at high heat.

The general consensus is that the baking temperature should not exceed 350 degrees. You can either choose recipes that don’t require baking at higher temperatures or lower the recommended baking temperature and just extend the baking time accordingly.

There is some risk involved that each treat will not contain the amount of CBD you intended, but this should not matter much as each treat will certainly contain some CBD.

What is CBD Vape Oil?

Whether it’s your first time using CBD vape, or you’re a veteran, it never hurts to brush up on what CBD vape juice actually is. Read and decide if it is the right fit for your health and wellness.

The Answer:

Simply put, CBD vape oil or CBD vape juice is any vape juice that contains CBD instead of nicotine. Some start pure and are then mixed with existing flavors, while others are pre-mixed blends. If you would like to learn more about CBD or shop for CBD vape oil, please click here.

Is CBD vape juice the same as CBD oil?

CBD vape juice, also known as CBD e-liquid, CBD vape oil or CBD e-juice, is different from regular CBD oil. While it’s true that CBD vape juice is CBD oil in liquid form, it is specially formulated in order to be heated and inhaled via a vape pen, a vaporizer, or an E-cigarette. Often times this oil can be purchased in a bottle for refilling a vaporizer or can also be purchased in the form of a one-time use cartridge for a vape pen.1

CBD vape juice and CBD oil are similar, but they are not the same. The following differences occur between them
2:

  • CBD vape juice and CBD oil differ from each other in a few distinct ways. You inhale CBD vape juice or viscous liquids with a vape pen, while you consume CBD oil orally by placing it under the tongue. Eventually, CBD enters your bloodstream in both cases. Nevertheless, these methods are not interchangeable which means that you cannot ingest vape juice or vape regular CBD oil.
  • Bioavailability is the amount of CBD content that really gets absorbed into your bloodstream. Vaping happens to have the highest bioavailability (40-50%), followed by CBD oil tinctures (20-30%) and CBD edibles (5-15%).

A More In-Depth Look At CBD Vape Oil

How is CBD vape oil made?

The steps involved in making CBD vape juice are similar to those of CBD oil and include grinding of the flower buds, extraction and purification of CBD oil. However, as opposed to CBD oil, CBD vape juice is mixed with thinning agents such as vegetable glycerine, propylene glycol or polyethylene glycol. The thinning agents decrease the viscosity of the oil and cause the juice to take on a more “liquid” form. This allows it to function with the heater coils found on a standard vape pen. Various other additives and isolates can be added to make thousands of different products.3

As with other CBD products, start with a low dose of vape juice increasing it gradually depending upon your requirement and convenience. Always discuss taking CBD with your doctor before use. CBD is known to interact with certain medications, especially those metabolized in the liver.

What is CBD Isolate

What is CBD Isolate

CBD isolate is used to create all manor of CBD products from oils to topicals. But what exactly do we mean when we say isolate?

The Answer:

CBD isolate is pure CBD with a crystalline solid or powder form and is over 98-99% pure. In crystalline form, CBD is very versatile and can be consumed in several ways. There may be certain benefits to using pure CBD powder over other forms of CBD. All other cannabinoids and plant impurities are removed before preparing CBD isolate for consumption.

Learning more about CBD Isolate is well worth the effort, if you plan on using cannabis-based products for the long term.

Simply put, CBD Isolate is a chemical component derived from cannabis plants like hemp. It is touted as the purest form of cannabis, primarily because of the way manufacturers separate, (or isolate, hence the name) the CBD from the other components of the plant.

Leaving behind pure CBD Isolate all by itself, and because it no longer contains THC, CBD does not get the user high. This is good news for people who may be worried about THC content in hemp-derived products. CBD isolate offers them a way to still enjoy the potential therapeutic benefits of CBD without the other unwanted plant material and effects.

More info about CBD Isolate

Isolate is typically vaporized, or dabbed, on what is known as a traditional dabs rig. This pure compound will not create ash as there is no burning plant material. It is for this reason that CBD isolate is one of the most distinct and versatile forms of CBD available on the market today. If vaping pure CBD sounds better than smoking raw hemp flower then isolate could be the right product for you. Learn more about how to take CBD.

A traditional extraction process is used to remove all the active compounds of the cannabis plant, followed by a refinement process that further strips away all the other phytocannabinoids. Depending on this refinement process, the result will either be a large CBD crystals or a fine white powder that resembles sugar. CBD isolate should contain a distinct odor or taste, but this flavor can be altered with terpenes.

One can easily differentiate between CBD isolate powder and CBD crystals. Powder is broken down into small grains and differs in appearance from the pure crystalline form, in which the CBD crystals are thicker and larger.

CBD Isolate vs. Full Spectrum CBD

The main difference between these two forms of cannabidiol is that while CBD Isolate is extracted from cannabis plants as a standalone product with no additional compounds included, full spectrum CBD contains multiple chemical compounds, including trace amounts of THC.

While full spectrum CBD does contain an extremely small amount of THC (about 0.3%), CBD Isolate doesn’t have any THC.

Always discuss using CBD with your doctor before taking it or starting a CBD regiment. CBD can interact with certain medications, especially those that are metabolized in the liver.

Its a little repetitive but CBD isolate as a product benefits from isolating cannabidiol.

Now that we have an understanding about what CBD isolate really is I hope this information will help serve you if you decide to use it or explain it to others.

How to use CBD Isolate

How to use CBD Isolate

You might know what CBD isolate is, and even purchased your first batch, but lets walk through how to use it.

The Answer:

While you might not know exactly what to do with a pile of CBD isolate powder at first glance, CBD isolate can actually be used in a number of different ways. In fact, in addition to its purity, one of the best aspects of CBD isolate is its versatility. As we’ll discuss in more detail below, whether it’s sublingual administration or mixing it with food and drinks, this crystalline powdered CBD can be concocted into several different methods of consumption. Below, we’ve laid out the main ways in which a person could use CBD isolate in its various forms. They are as follows:

Inhalation

CBD isolate, if not already, can be mixed with terpenes to create homemade CBD concentrates that may be vaped or dabbed. The isolate could also be made into crystal slabs that can be dabbed on a traditional oil rig.

Ingestion

Manufacturers may produce CBD crystals in capsule or pill form, allowing you to ingest an accurate measured dose. You can also mix CBD isolate with a variety of ingredients to create CBD-infused food and drinks. It’s important to know that CBD is not absorbed very well by the digestive system. In order to increase bioavailability, CBD isolate can be added to carrier oils, such as coconut or olive oil, to increase its chances of permeating the gastrointestinal system and reaching the bloodstream.

Sublingual

To take CBD isolate sublingually, you can apply the CBD powder directly underneath your tongue and hold the CBD there for about a minute. In this method, the CBD is absorbed by the mucous membranes and delivered directly to the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system and liver to provide more immediate and effective relief.

In general, taking CBD Isolate as a powder directly under the tongue might be the easiest and the most effective way of taking CBD Isolate. The product may be odorless and tasteless, although many users do mix it with liquids or food when they ingest CBD Isolate in order to make the taste pleasant.

A More In-Depth Look At CBD Isolate Use

Other Methods of Consumption

Manufacturers often mix CBD Isolate into a variety of products such as edible gummies, or creams that can be rubbed into the skin. This kind of topical application is however, less common when it comes to methods of consuming CBD isolate.

Ease of Use

It’s also incredibly easy to measure CBD isolate dosages, as there’s nothing else to account for aside from the pure CBD crystals. With other CBD-based products, such as broad-spectrum and full-spectrum CBD oil, the cannabinoid is mixed with other ingredients, making it more difficult to quantify the exact amount of CBD that is being consumed. This makes it much easier to figure out potential dosing amounts. Calculating the dosage levels with CBD Isolate is easy to do. Any small quality household scale should do. Because Isolate is separated from other compounds, measuring the dosage in milligrams gives you the exact amount of CBD you need, per the package directions.

By and large, for every one milligram of CBD powder, the consumer is ingesting one milligram of CBD. Dosage amounts do vary based on the consumer’s body weight and his or her other unique needs, it’s always best to start with a low dose of CBD Isolate at first under doctor supervision.

Typically you may feel the full effects of CBD isolate within 60 to 90 minutes of taking CBD Isolate orally, and within a 3-5 minutes of inhaling.

Potential Drawbacks to CBD Isolate

While CBD isolate may sound like the best approach for CBD use in some people, keep in mind that there are also a key disadvantages to isolating CBD from other cannabis compounds. The main one being that you lose what is known as the “entourage effect” when you sacrifice the other cannabinoids present in cannabis plants strictly for CBD.

However, this can still be a good thing for people who are looking to avoid THC. That said, it’s important to shop with a reputable company who can verify the content of their products with third party lab tests. It’s worth checking the package or bottle to make sure there is no THC in the CBD Isolate.
